The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is a great way to see Rutherglen’s wineries, producers and countryside on a leisurely flat ride. If staying for a few days in Rutherglen as a base this is perfect to access the many sections of the trail and explore the region further. Today I completed another section of the M2M with a group of buddies. We parked our vehicles at Gapsted Winery & enjoyed a caffe in the winter sunshine before a leisurely ride to the eastern end Myrtleford (Happy Valley) for lunch at Lupo’s Kiln Cafe (9.9kms). Following lunch, a short pedal further on brought us to the Happy Valley Hotel in Ovens (1.5kms), for a refreshing ale before an express cycle back to Gapsted. We started off at 1pm and returned at 4.30pm. A fab way to fill in the shorter winter daylight hours.
This foodie week at the B&B we’re not sure what we are? Little bit Sicilian with blood orange juice freshly squeezed, little bit Roman with a winter biscotti of white chocolate, apricot and almond, a little bit French with madeleines being prepared in the La Maison St Arnaud kitchen for the annual TdF dinner. And for good measure an experimental zucchini and lemon loaf cake!
Just 30 minutes drive from Rutherglen is Beechworth. Worthy of a stop on the way is The Woolshed Falls. For the more adventurous hike the Gorge from the falls carpark to Beechworth.
Amazing! Winter Warmer Spa package at Circa 1936 in Corowa. https://www.facebook.com/1075347125810896/posts/1950480034964263/
As a couple, we were indulged! Refreshing herbal tea with footbath to start then a relaxing full body massage! Finally, a relaxing glass of vino in front of the fireplace. So relaxing, and romantic.
