The summer of 2019/2020 was the straw that broke the camels back!
Another hot dry spell, bushfires (not in Rutherglen itself), acrid bushfire smoke and associated debris fallout (definitely in Rutherglen) finished off my passion for lawn!
In December I engaged with a very talented local landscaping company with the brief to deliver me a low impact, drought tolerant and sustainable garden.
I dreamt of an Italianate villa garden which would frame the Victorian-era cottage and be not only pleasing to the eye but kinder on a most precious commodity, water.
After the first turn of soil I just knew Dennis and I were onto something! It felt great ridding the yard of the scrappy lawn.
The project hit a financial hiatus with COVID putting a stop to the monetary flow but we pushed on labouring and improving the soil, planting out with legacy cuttings from my own & local friends garden beds, and just a few new salvias to liven up with perennial colour.
It’s a working progress however the early signs are good...enjoy a few moments from the past 6 months, and watch this space in spring!
